When thinking about women empowerment in society we think of the women that have done certain movements in order to get there point across but the statue that goes unnoticed in society is the I am statue Queen Mary of Copenhagen.Mary Thomas was one of three female leaders in 1878 called “fireburn”rebellion which was a revolt againsted danish colonial rule on the island of st.croix and had set fires to houses and suger mills around 50 plantations, and after 140 years denmark has made a statue in her honor as the city’s first public monument to a black woman

The I am queen Mary of Copgenhagen statue was made by La Vaughn belle & Jennette Ehlers these two artist felt like they needed to know the history behind there carribean roots and colonial history.This monmunet was made in 2018 where they felt that a monument of a black women in demark would celebrate and tell a story of how people resited the danish colonialism in the carribbean They believed if they had made this statue it will start bringing more people together instead of having all colored people be apart and by this they felt the need to make the statue of queen Mary to tell her story and how she raised up to make her point go across about and beginning a rebellion with three other women It was also made to indicate a sense of dignity and strength which are high qualities that the statue is known for and the artist that decided to make this statue had chose to make her as a leader and symbolizing her leadership.The statue you can also show that that the crown ,scepter and the type of close she is wearing can represent her role in a monarch timeline and her influence on shaping history and making a different adjustment and it shows the importance to the people which began the I am empowerment

This statue symbolizes leadership and strength sent was that Mary Thomas wanted a change in her home land and wanted to free all those people that were enslaved and not many know her story and how she came about during this time but she and three others have made movements in order to get they point across to the Danish colonies by this she had led the largest sugercane plantation to a revolt rebellion in 1878
