Taking this class throughout this semester has really broadened my perspective an immigrant literature . Coming into this class I expected all of the class to be reading and reflecting on the same books. But, to my surprise we got to choose what we read and wrote about. Being given that freedom I learned the immigrant lit can come in a variety of forms, from graphic novels to books. I was able to expand upon my narrow perspective of what a book about immigration would be. Having the freedom to chose made me love this class so much more, and it also made me so much more excited about this class. I also was able to explore narrative technologies I didn’t even knew existed. It was amazing being able to finally put words to the feelings I had when I read. Having these narrative technologies help me be able to understand the books I was reading as well. If I ever felt confused about a feeling or not sure what I was feeling, I could just go look at WonderCat and everything was right there. Looking at the technologies gave me that ah-ha moment when I finally understood what emotions I had Ben feeling about the piece I had just read. Another big thing for me was the openness we had as a class. I loved reading and hearing about others work because I believe learning from others is extremely important. Everyone brought their different perspectives to the table and it was so interesting to learn about others mindsets. I also enjoyed sharing my work and being in an accepting space that gave me the confidence to do so. I would have never made my creative work public in the beginning of the semester but being in this class gave me the confidence to. I love hearing others feedback because it teaches me so much. It also makes me extremely happy knowing others enjoyed what I had written. Over all, this class has helped me so much with confidence and has taught me so much about literature. I am so grateful I was able to experience it and interact with all of this lovely and intelligent people.
