We have a classroom (for those of you in my on-ground courses), and we have a Canvas page. This space is just as important, but it’s different in some important ways.
For one, this space belongs to you. You will be posting things here you find interesting, things you’ve remixed from free resources like online educational resources, or OERs, and things you create. There are few rules to how this manifests, but those that exist are as follows:
-You may not post anything that offends, or could potentially offend, other students. No illicit material of any kind. Avoid anything related to religion, politics, or biased views regarding nationality, sexuality, or other attributes of identity. This is an inclusive space, and mutual respect will be given to all, regardless of who they are, where they are from, what they believe, or who they identify as.
-All materials must be free use. We will cover in more depth what this means, and where you can find open use resources. Keep in mind that even if using open resources, you still must make clear the original source of the materials you use.
-Never alter or erase another student’s work without speaking with them first about your intentions, and getting their approval. You are allowed to manipulate/change/remix anything you post at any time, but similarly, please let me know before you do so, and why you’re planning to do it.
-While some postings will be purely creative and serve for exercises meant to generate questions, the goal of this site is to build resources you and future students can use to better understand concepts introduced in this course. Keep this in mind when creating source material, and when posting it.
That’s about it. If you are ever unclear about what you’re doing here, or have any questions, feel free to contact me at rdcrawford@newhaven.edu. Enjoy.
