Scenario 1:I am an artist and my main lane is making music and a public figure. Music making isn’t the only obligation that I have to do. Promotion also plays an important part of hopefully becoming a worldwide superstar. You can receive promotion many ways, but the most common ways are through social media like Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and others. I personally use Instagram a lot more than my other social media handles for how interactive and the many different things you can do on there. Social media can be difficult for people to pick up if it’s there first time using it. My audience is these people who aren’t fully comfortable or understand the use of Instagram and to hopefully make using the app one bit less stressful for them.

Scenario 2:Hopefully soon I want to be able to have my own business whether it’s a record label or clothing line but to do that I will need more people to help rather than just me. That means I will need a set of instructions on hand for people to use if the unlikely case occurs where they will need to learn how to post picture and videos on Instagram. These details will not just show how to post a picture but to post with knowledge of your audience and how to preplan pictures so there isn’t time wasted setting them up.

Scenario 1 Instructions

How to post a picture on Instagram.

If you’re new to social media this guide will show you how to post a picture to your feed. Whether you want to post for fans, family or friends, this guide will teach you how to post your first photo.

  1. Go to the app Instagram and make sure you are signed in.
  • Click on the middle icon on the homepage at the bottom (which is a box with a plus sign inside of it
  • You will then see the option to post a picture from your phone library, and the ability to take a picture or video live while using the app.
  • Click at the top of the page that says “recents”and switch it to favorites.
  • Scroll through the pictures you have shown at the bottom of the page until you find the one you like and click on it
  • You can size the picture by zooming in or out on the picture. You can also use the two arrows on the left middle corner of the page that are facing opposite of each other.
  • Sizing your picture, you can click the upper right corner and from there you are given the option to add a filter to your picture.
  • You can click on the different types of filters you might think you’ll like. You click the filter choice twice to decide how strong the filter is on the picture by using the scale from 0-100.
  • To add a filter or not to your picture and how strong it is you can then click next on the top right side of the corner.
  • The need for a caption isn’t always needed but people do have the option to put one.
  • You can tag the person name on the actual picture and not the caption by clicking on “Tag People”and typing in their username.
  • You can add a location of where the picture was taken so people who may click on that location tag could know where that location is at. This is a privacy issue if you have a lot of random people following you and you want to post pictures of your home location or personal addresses you don’t want people knowing.
  • You have the ability to post your picture or video on other social media outlets if you are signed into them like Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr.
  1. The last thing is to click share in the top right corner and make sure the picture or video loads completely. When that’s done just relax and be interactive with people who are commenting on your pictures and be appreciative of the likes you get on a picture but don’t let the likes control you because that picture meant something to you with or without the likes.

Scenario 2 Instructions

How to post a picture on a creator or business page on Instagram

If you are new to the world of the media industry this is a guide to learn how to post a picture on Instagram as well as save a draft for a later time to post.

  1. Go to the app Instagram and make sure you are signed in.
  2. Click on the bottom right icon, which looks like a silhouette of a person.
  3. There you should see 3 horizontal stripes on the top right corner of the page that you have to click on
  4. Click on settings
  5. In the settings page you need click on the 9tharrow, which will lead you to the account information.
  6. You now will see two options on the bottom of the page that will allow you to switch the account to a Creator account or to a business account. Choose which account fits you more.
  7. When you choose an option they will ask you for a Facebook page to link the account too if this is your first time making this page into something other than a personal page. Sign into your Facebook account and then they will redirect you back to your Instagram page.
  8. You can exit the account settings page and go back to the original page you were on when clicking on the bottom right silhouette icon.
  9. There will be a set of numbers that say how many visits you receive on your page. Click on that number.
  10. You then click on audience and scroll down to view your followers by day or hours.
  11. You can view the hours of each day in 3-hour intervals and the number of followers during that time by clicking on the bar graphs supplied. The 2-hour time intervals look like12am, 3am, 6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm.
  12. To leave this page click on the bottom left icon that looks like a house. You should only leave the page when you have decided the time when you want to post a picture that’s the most efficient for you.
  1. To post a picture now Click on the middle icon of the homepage at the bottom. Which is a box with a plus sign inside of it.
  2. You will then see the option to post a picture from your phone library, and the ability to take a picture or video live while using the app. (I personally use pictures that I have saved on my phone in my favorites that I love.)
  3. Click at the top of the page that says “recents” and switch it to favorites.
  4. From here scroll through the pictures you have shown at the bottom of the page until you find the one you like and click on it
  5. You can size the picture by zooming in or out on the picture. You can also use the two arrows on the left middle corner of the page that are facing opposite of each other.
  6. After sizing your picture, you can click next and from there you are given the option to add a filter to your picture.
  7. You can click on the different types of filters you might think you’ll like. You click the filter choice twice to decide how strong the filter is on the picture by using the scale from 0-100.
  8. When finished with the decision to add a filter or not to your picture and how strong it is you can then click next on the top right side of the corner.
  9. At this point we are at the caption section of posting a picture. This is the title of your picture basically what people will read. The need of a caption isn’t always needed depending on how great the picture is but most people love a great caption so it doesn’t hurt to make one of you have some good ideas.
  10. You can tag a person with their username in the caption if they are a part of the picture or you want them to see it and feel closer to it. Imagine if it was a picture of just you but they were there that day and you wanted to talk about it together. You can also tag the person name on the actual picture and not the caption by clicking on “Tag People” and typing in their username.
  11. You can add a location of where the picture was taken so people who may click on that location tag could know where that location is at. This is a privacy issue if you have a lot of random people following you and you want to post pictures of your home location or personal addresses you don’t want people knowing.
  12. You have the ability to post your picture or video on other social media outlets if you are signed into them like Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr.
  13. All we have to do is click on share and then we have completed everything a post would have to deal with but instead of actually posting the picture we want to save it as a draft for later.
  14. Instead of clicking share you actually want to click on the return arrow on the top left corner of the page.
  15. You should now be back to where the filters page is and you need to click that return arrow on the top left corner and it will then ask you to “Discard” the post or “Save Draft”
  16. Click on “Save Draft “and it will bring you back to the option of picking a picture to post. There you will see your draft post.
  17. To post your draft post just click on it and press next and then click share. The post will load to your page with everything that you added to it previously.

Reflection

Most of the times that I am giving instructions they rarely are given in written form. I feel confident giving vocal instructions, but this would be a different challenge for me that I was fortunately up for. It made me curious whether I had the ability to write out instructions and have them followed efficiently. I would want instructions given to me to be able to relieve me of stress rather than cause me stress; also to be given by a person who understands the in’s and out of the instructions they are explaining.

I decided to not use pictures for either instructions because I felt like the instructions might have been lengthy to begin with and adding pictures can make the task feel as if its longer than it should be. I would rather focus on the detail and clarity from the instructions given so that nothing else is needed. Like how Ikea makes sure their instruction pictures are so detailed and easy to understand that words are barely needed in a set of instructions.

People all live different lives, and with them living their lives they tend to develop skills in things they love or happen to do just about every day. Other than just school I also am an artist who makes music. As I try to become a mogul, I use social media quite often. I tend to use Instagram the most out of my social media handles and that’s to post pictures, videos or things that are about my life or entertaining to myself and the crowd. I went with a simpler version of posting a picture that doesn’t go into the demographics of when your audience (followers) are most active during the time of day. The instructions giving for scenario 1 can be used by anybody who is new to Instagram and are just starting use of the app.

Social media is a huge world in the media industry, to the point there are people who run social media pages for a living.  I decided to use how to post a picture while using the demographics of your audience (followers). This way you have the ability to have an estimated number shown to you by Instagram to see the number of followers on at what time. For example, on my page my followers are more active past 6:00P.M with 1,500 followers active on their page. I also explained a quick easy tool that allows you to save your pictures as a form of a draft so you can come back to the picture to fix it or post it at a later date. This is more of a business strategy because it allows you to have pictures, captions, edits and more ready so all you have to worry about is when you want to post the picture.

Just like in life how people can have the same exact food and create two different plates is how people can have the same app and use it for different reasons and different ways. There are something’s about using social media that I know more than some people and vice versa. When knowing the needed tools and additional tricks people need for their task at hand is then when you decide to write out instructions tailored for that task. Scenario 2 instructions could change all depending on the company or person you could be working for because they want to do things differently. Either way you have to stay adaptable in the ever-changing world of social media and the media industry.
