Chargers as Pedagogical Partners (CAPP)

Join the Team

The University of New Haven Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) is pleased to issue a call each spring for student workers to be hired as Student Consultants in the Chargers as Pedagogical Partners (CAPP) program. New Student Consultants will begin their employment each August.

In the CAPP program, student consultants and their faculty partners will work as co-developers of course materials and colleagues in improving and innovating teaching and learning across the University.  Student consultants will be paid up for up to five hours of work per week for their efforts in the following capacities:

  • helping faculty gather information on their teaching through conducting teaching observations, giving feedback on course materials, facilitating student feedback sessions, and/or coordinating video recordings of instructors’ classes.
  • brainstorming with faculty to find solutions to the questions faculty have about their teaching, course materials, etc.
  • attending regular meetings with CAPP supervisors to continually hone their ability to offer constructive, informed feedback; learn about pedagogy; and cultivate teaching innovations to apply with faculty partners.

Students are experts on what it is like to be a student. We seek to leverage this unique perspective to help instructors create courses that are student-centered and to improve the student experience on our campus. These partnerships will allow faculty to explore student perspectives on their course materials or teaching, with the shared goal of increasing the level of student input in courses across campus.

We are committed to hiring students from diverse backgrounds. This includes but is not limited to diversity in terms of race, age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, ability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, and religion, as well as students who have felt underserved, unwelcomed, or underprepared in the standard classroom. Each student experience is unique, and we aim to build a team of student consultants that reflects the variety of experiences represented on our campus.
