“From the Fires”

Fire was a key element in humanity’s beginning to advance because fire propelled the industrial revolution by generating steam power and burning coal which were two things that propelled humanity forward into the modern era that we live in today. Fire was the spark that led to humanity becoming as advanced as it is today.

Fire can be a metaphor for the way that babies turn into adults. Fires start with a spark, and in a similar way, so do babies. The spark is the beginning of life, and once we have the beginning spark; the baby, and the fire begins to grow. It will continue to grow up until it reaches its point of death. A fire cannot burn forever, and neither can humans. At some point we all come to terms with the fact with death is imminent. Even if we try to tend to the fire, it will burn out at some point.

This idea of imminent death also closely relates to the idea that humans are and will be such a small bump in the road for our planet. We think of ourselves so highly that we believe we are so important to this planet despite the fact that if the history of the world was a twenty-four hour clock, we’d have only been here for two minutes.
