Now, if you are not a huge fan of country music, you may be asking yourself \u201cwho is Kacey\u00a0Musgraves?.\u201d\u00a0Well, I am here to tell you that and all about\u00a0\u201cBack\u00a0To\u00a0Texas\u201d.\u00a0Kacey Musgraves\u00a0grew up in Sulphur Springs, Texas and\u00a0began songwriting at the age of 8.\u00a0Later,\u00a0she began to take guitar lessons and is known to say that guitar lessons changed her life. When she was younger, her mom would take her to local festivals to perform Western Swing music. Musgraves, along with fellow classmate, Alina Tatum formed a duo called \u201cTexas Two Bits.\u201d They\u00a0would travel throughout Texas performing and even\u00a0released an album in 2000. This album caught the attention of former President George W. Bush.\u00a0When she was 18, Musgraves moved to Austin Texas where she was eventually discovered by Monte Robison.\u00a0When listening to\u00a0\u201cBack\u00a0To\u00a0Texas\u201d\u00a0you may hear some ideas and images that you may not be familiar with.\u00a0This song contributes to\u00a0Texan\u00a0identity and culture through the images she talks about. For\u00a0example,\u00a0in the beginning of the song she talks about how she needs \u201csome real air to breathe\u201d and how she misses THAT southern sky. In the second verse she speaks about how she wants to be back in that one light town on the front porch swing. As someone who is from a town with no stoplights, I can completely understand what she is talking about. There is something about living in a town with one light that some people just\u00a0can&#8217;t\u00a0relate to.\u00a0She also talks about how she wants to be in a\u00a0Texas\u00a0bar with the lone star beer. Lone star beer \u201c&#8230; built in 1884, was the first\u00a0large mechanized\u00a0brewer in\u00a0Texas. Lone Star is The Nation Beer of\u00a0Texas. The brand has endured and refreshed generations of\u00a0Texans. The beer \u201cfrom the big country\u201d is always abundant at back yard hangs, enjoying\u00a0Texas&#8217;s\u00a0plentiful waters, and front row at your favorite show.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Now when it comes to thinking about how Texas is represented and what this song says about Texas, you may&nbsp;remember one line in the chorus. \u201cYou can stay here in hell, as for me I\u2019m going back to Texas.\u201d&nbsp;In case&nbsp;you didn\u2019t&nbsp;know,&nbsp;that one line is&nbsp;actually said&nbsp;by Davy Crockett. According to&nbsp;<em>texasstandard.org&nbsp;\u201c<\/em>Davy Crockett said this angrily after losing his Tennessee bid for U.S Congress.\u201d&nbsp;This line plays&nbsp;a big role&nbsp;in what Texas means to Kacey&nbsp;as well. It makes you believe that&nbsp;Texas&nbsp;is&nbsp;Kacey&#8217;s&nbsp;home,&nbsp;and she&nbsp;would rather leave&nbsp;her people where she is to go back to&nbsp;Texas.&nbsp;&nbsp;Immediately in verse one she&nbsp;states&nbsp;that she hates the way they look at me. You can imagine that she is talking about how the&nbsp;Texans&nbsp;look at her in a loving way,&nbsp;whereas&nbsp;the people in the place she is in now,&nbsp;do not.&nbsp;Even if you are not from Texas, this song can relate to you in one&nbsp;way.
