Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/\">https:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/<\/a>, and on the homepage; Courses, Projects and Portfolios will be displayed. If clone is selected, a drop-down menu with pages previously created will be displayed. If a new project\/course\/portfolio is being created, a name and unique URL would be required. The name which is selected is usually associated with your future URL. Your theme adds the appearance, style, and layout to your website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From your main site page, highlight the title of your page in the top bar and then select <strong>Dashboard<\/strong>; this is highlighted in red below. After selecting dashboard, you will be directed to<strong> <\/strong>your site customization page captioned in the smaller image below. Under <strong>Customize Your Site<\/strong>, you will see<strong> change your theme completely<\/strong>, that you will then select.                          <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/03\/NEW-THEME.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-833\" \/><figcaption><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-836\" style=\"width: 250px\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/03\/CHANGE-THEME.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After selecting <strong>change your theme completely<\/strong> you will then be able to view the different themes that can be applied to your website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Apart from the themes that we provide access to, a wider variety is available and can be made accessible upon request; these themes can be viewed at  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/themes\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/wordpress.org\/themes\/<\/a>. To request a theme, please fill out and submit a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeJ6prIUM4iJM7dcnjUBaadadabGdJ6LzthW_NeccZklHBcww\/viewform?usp=sf_link\" target=\"_blank\"><em>theme request form here<\/em><\/a>, an example of this is displayed below. After this theme is requested, a response will be given with 2-3 business days. The steps to do so are as follows: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select <strong>Live Preview<\/strong> to view a theme before applying it to your website. After finding the theme that best suits your page, select  <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-411\" style=\"width: 150px\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2019\/10\/activate-and-publish-1.png\" alt=\"\">   to apply it to your site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WordPress incorporates a theme-specific customization sidebar and a general customization sidebar that can both be used to customize your website. As you learn more and continue to explore, you will better understand how each can be used interchangeably. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><\/p>\n\n\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adding a Page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding a page is simple, quick and easy.  From the extreme top bar that includes<strong> My profile<\/strong> and <strong>Log Out<\/strong> highlight your <strong>Page Title<\/strong>, then select<strong> Dashboard<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/03\/Image-log-out-n-pro.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-787\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: This depends on the page you are on, at times when the title is highlighted the only option that will be present is <strong>visit site<\/strong>. <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-803\" style=\"width: 150px\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/03\/Image-93.jpg\" alt=\"\"> Select visit site, then repeat the first step ( highlight your <strong>Page Title<\/strong>, then select<strong> Dashboard<\/strong>) then continue with the steps below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dashboard will be displayed similarly to the image below. To add your page, select the page icon from the general customization bar, or just select <strong>Add additional pages<\/strong>, both options are highlighted in red below. After the information is added, you can either <strong>Save Draft or Publish<\/strong>. By saving your information as a draft it will be saved for future editing without it being posted to your site. Before these menu instructions are explained, the next page will show how to turn one of these pages into your homepage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">Note: If your sample page is still present, you can select all pages and you will be able to delete it from here; that is if there are no plans of using it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><\/p>\n\n\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adding a Homepage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When creating your home page there are two options that can be used, either a <strong>STATIC<\/strong> homepage or <strong>LATEST POST<\/strong> homepage. These options are self-explanatory, the static page usually has the same display unless changed by the designer, while the latest post will just show your most recent posts, similar to a blog. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest posts can either be on the homepage or users can be diverted to another page from a menu tab that displays your latest posts. (mini blog page)  An instructor with a class that checks online for weekly updates ( notes, readings, etc.) might decide to use the latest posts homepage so that current information is easily located. Another instructor might decide to use the static homepage with menus entitled week 1, week 2, week 3&#8230;, where the information is displayed; it&#8217;s all up to you. There are two ways in which your home page can be created these two options will be explained thoroughly below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OPTION 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head over to the dashboard, and select &#8216;<strong>Customize Your Site<\/strong>,&#8217; highlighted in red below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/02\/customize-site-1-1024x228.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-497\" width=\"730\" height=\"190\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select <strong>homepage settings<\/strong>, from the theme-specific customization sidebar and select whether you want your homepage to be static or display your latest posts. Pages that you have created will be displayed in the dropdown menu under <strong>homepage<\/strong>, just select the one which will be used as your homepage. Your main menu usually appears at the top of your page (depending on your theme) and this is where your user usually checks first to navigate the site. I previously created my Circulatory system, Nervous System, Respiratory System, SYSTEMS OF THE BODY, Digestive System, Pollination, Water Cycle, Bio and Presentations page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/04\/menu-new.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1206\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select the pages that you want to be added to your menu, then click <strong>Add to Menu<\/strong>. You have the option to drag and re-order the pages to change how they will be arranged on your menu. (You can delete the sample page from your menu by clicking <strong>page <\/strong>that will display a drop-down menu and then the option to <strong>remove <\/strong>this page will be displayed) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/04\/Image-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1208\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">When you are done, select <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-933\" style=\"width: 100px\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/03\/Image-29.png\" alt=\"\"> then <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-934\" style=\"width: 90px\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/03\/save-menu.jpg\" alt=\"\"> that appears to the right of your page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is an example of how your main menu would look after adding your pages and removing the sample page. The<strong> Home<\/strong> option usually appears on your menu (might not need to create your own), but this depends on your theme. The <strong>HOME<\/strong> option sends you back to your main page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/04\/Image-20.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1224\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\" id=\"lets-add-a-submenu\" style=\"font-size:37px\"><strong>Lets add a sub-menu<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Head back over to the menu page then add the page you want to be displayed as a sub-menu to your current menu. In this case, I would like my sub-menu page to be displayed as a sub of my menu page. To do so, I will <strong>drag the sub-menu item under the MENU item<\/strong>. (see image below)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/unewhavendh.org\/navigatingwordpress\/files\/2020\/04\/menu-line.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1212\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After adding your pages to the menu list and dragging it under the page which will it be a sub of, <strong>DRAG IT TO THE RIGHT UNTIL THE PAGE IS INDENTED<\/strong>. When it is indented, the word sub-item will appear beside the page name. These customization bars are the places to add, delete, and modify everything from menus to pages and from widgets to backgrounds. The general customization bar remains similar regardless of the theme being used, while the theme-specific customization bar changes with your selected theme.
