To The Publishing

Virginia Woolf didn’t have the various options me and many writers do now in the modern era when it comes to how publishing was done. The way that she used to get her novels published would drive me insane. I am very much a perfectionist and I would drive myself crazy trying to get it all perfect on my first try. I would get so stuck on the first and second steps of the process that I would never get around to finishing it all. Which even in the modern era of publishing I still face difficulty. One of the best and worst things about being a modern writer is the lack of stake in what we write. For example, many authors before the times of laptops couldn’t just save a draft and walk away and just have “writer’s block”. They needed to get a publication out by a certain time and needed to map out exactly how a story went before they even thought about putting words to paper. The lack of drive I’ve faced as a writer because I can always fall back on my drafts is what hurts me the most as a writer.
