A lot of what we were talking about in class revolved around the industry of publishing. How a lot of groups within our department need to take what is wanted by the general audience and balance it with what they want to say. My question referring to my 2nd post was in reference to the difference between pay with writer Tom King and artists/colorists Bisques Evely and Matheus Lopes alike. The reasoning behind this question stems from the huge difference in not only recognition but pay preference that writers got over illustrators when it comes to comic books and graphic novels. Specifically, the creators of Batman, Bob Kane and Bill Finger are famous for this very dispute. Bob Kane described the character of Batman as a blonde white man with a red spandex suit with a domino mask and bat wings. Meanwhile, Bill Finger visualized Batman into the global phenomenon we know and love today. From his mask to his gadgets to his cape and even his utility belt. But even with all of that Bill Finger was never credited with the creation of Batman who was created in May 1939 until October 2015. My research question is very important to see how the culture has shifted, especially in DC, after this event.
