While I primarily teach first-year writing, my background in creative and professional writing informs much of my teaching and scholarly endeavors. My experience in web editing and social media management, for example, has guided my exploration of social media as a research tool. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My\ninterest in social media twofold:\nI am particularly fascinated by the\nways in which scholars use social media to network, build community, and\neducate in public spaces, but I am also interested in how social media allows\nus learn more about <em>people<\/em>\u2014their habits, their behaviors,\ntheir opinions, and how they choose to reveal those things in short, written\ncommunications in front of a global audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because\nI also have a passion for video games and gaming culture, I am specifically interested in the gaming and\nesports communities active on Twitter, and I am currently using Mozdeh, a data\ncollection and text-analysis tool, to look at the way fans may exhibit \u201ctoxic\nbehavior\u201d in tweets posted during live esports competitions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am\nhappy to help students develop research projects that harness Mozdeh\u2019s powerful\ndata collection and text-analysis features.\nI can also work with students looking\nto use social media to share\ntheir research in new and interesting ways. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am a practitioner-in-residence in the English Department at the University of New Haven.
