out with the old, in with the… REBOOT

so…for this assigment I’m going to back to the olden days (a.k.a the years when my family weren’t all a bunch of hags) and chose a old timer song, though 99% of you may not known about this but you’ll learn about it today. it’s the 1961 Ost soundtrack from “breakfast at Tiffaney”, more specially the song “moon river“. so…you may be wondering how i stumble upon this old classic. well…..

old song with modern spins

there is a game that I always wanted to play known as “Bayonetta”, a four game series about the umbra witch bayonetta (real name cereza) as she battle with multiple of different threats from angels and demons to a literal chaos god and aliens… yea it quite complicated. but were not here to talk about the game, instead where talking about the OST. in the second installment of the game, a “modernize” version of moon river is played at the beginning of the game in the prologue.

the song moon river plays at 12:46 in bayonetta 2.

moon river OST.

that song kinda got stuck to my head for a little, until SOMEONE brought it up indirectly when they were talking about the movie breakfast at Tiffaney where it was on of the sounds that the main actress sang in the movie. so me wanting to know how the original is compare to this decide to listen and… JESUS CHRIST, the devs need a standing ovation because never in a million years that they will turn a 1950 slow love song into a mid 2000’s battle music but at the same time we’re talking about the same people who modernize the 1954 song “fly me to the moon”.

1960’s moon river

ok enough with the modern version of the song, how dose the original compare to this version. to put it simply, IT’S A TOTAL 180. for an actual answer, it can be describe in three emotions.

emotion#1: surprised

now first and fore most i was utterly shock. for one thing the rhythm of the song felt so soft and soothing i was surprise on how they were able to make it in a upbeat type of fashion. another thing that also surprise me is the message that the song gives. what i mean by that is the lyrics of the song is based of the love that tiffany has for this guy in the movie (I’m sorry I’ve haven’t watch the movie so I don’t the name of the love interested) but the fact that the song is about tiffany’s love for someone and the fact that is been use for a hack and slash game is sill crazy since it didn’t made no goddamn sense but i like it so i give it a past.

emotion#2: expected

so, yes while i was surprised on how totally different the original was to this version, it was kinda expected for them to modernize a 20th century song. what i mean by that is the fact that this wasn’t the first time. As I mention earlier, the first installment of the series did a similar play as well, where they took the 1954 song “fly me to the moon” by Bart Howard & Kaye Ballard and change it to an 2000s battle music.

bayonetta OST: fly me to the moon.

because of what they did with fly me to the moon, in the back of my mind i was kinda expected that they was going to modernize another old classic and of course when they remixed moon river in another banger.

emotion#3:soothing

ok so i’ve talk a lot about moon river that i forgot that there where other song on the playlist and after listening to them, I’M BEING HONEST TO GOD RIGHT NOW, it felt so soothing and enjoyable to listen. like let’s be real here, I came in expecting for it to be slow and melancholy considering the genre of the movie being a romance movie and the fact this came out in the 1960s but GODDANM, i really enjoy it. some of the songs had a slow rhythm that when you listen, you felt like a high status person look at the view of new York at night with a bottle of wine in your hand. other songs had that jazzy rhythm to it that it reminded me of my childhood where I’ll be in the living room or my room or even in my grandparents room, and watching looney tunes (if you know, you know). I think my favorite is probably sally’s tomato, because of the rhythm of the song and if I’m being honest, it kinda reminded me of monster inc. (don’t ask me how, it just reminded me of that)
