Wine Mom Culture: What is wine mom culture and why is it problematic?
Revised: Wine mom culture’s impact on mental health of mothers
Best Source
The most helpful source I found in this stage was the Psypost article titled “New psychology research sheds light on the dark side of “wine mom” culture”. This article went into the most detail on a study published about wine moms and will help me to prove this is a real issue, scientifically studied and negatively impacting many moms. This caused me to experience a sense of empowerment. I was pretty concerned that this would be too niche of a topic that there were no other writings on it, let alone research. With this newfound factual information I feel empowered to continue my research.
Old: A technology of this article which I found so empowering was the data and numbers. Percentages and such. However, there was no option for statistics in the technology so I’m not sure if this is a realistic technology. I am also not sure what the corresponding feature is for this technology. I am still confused on how these two pieces work for a source. I felt like the lack of a feature glossary also contributed to this confusion.
New:
The most noteworthy feature of this source which contributed to my empowerment was the data and numbers. Seeing statistics proved there was research done on the topic which was the most exciting for me.
The corresponding technology was the author’s inclusion of the study’s data rather than simply describing it. To explicitly state it, reproducing the study data was the technology which contributed most to my empowerment. The psypost article is meant for unscientific people to understand a very detailed and scientific study done on wine moms. This means that the study had a lot of language the average person would not understand. However, the psypost article was easy to understand as an average person, but still included details such as the statistics. If the psypost article dumbed down the study too much I would have just dismissed it as not enough research for what I was looking for. However the author’s use of digestible language and data was the perfect mix for this source and me as a reader/researcher.
Most of the technologies on the class glossary list seemed like they fit more for a fiction source (like a movie or book) rather than a nonfiction source like this scientific study. I’m not sure if I am just looking at it with the wrong lens or if there is more we can expand on it as a class.
Next Steps
Now that I have a good study as a source, I hope to find some personal experiences from moms about their own experience with wine. Most of my sources are from professionals or people analyzing wine moms, but nothing personal. That would be a good way to expand my sources.
