For this post, I want you to decide on a specific question that you want to answer with your research for the rest of the semester. Your question will change as you continue to learn new things, but it’s important to get specific and think about what you’re really trying to figure out with your project. After you’ve done this, I want you to share your experience with another new source you’ve found for your project. I have been encouraging you all to BE HONEST about the actual experiences you’re having as you read the sources you find through more advanced search strategies. This is really important. If an article seems relevant, but you struggle to read it because it’s boring, confusing, or infuriating, I want to help you navigate that difficulty. And I can do that most effectively if you share your experience with me.
So, here are the headings I recommend you use for this next post:
Project Update: My Primary Research Question
In this section, describe where you are with your project and make sure to include at least one specific question you want to answer with your research.
A New Source
Use this section to describe how you found the source you’ve chosen to focus on. Make sure to include the title and author (include a link or DOI if possible).
My Experience with This Source
Use as many words as you need to describe your experience reading your chosen source. If you didn’t read the whole thing, explain why. If you used tools to help you understand the source, describe what you used and why. I don’t recommend using AI to summarize challenging paragraphs, but if you do that–I definitely want you to share the summary it provided to you.
What Word Best Describes my Experience?
Review our glossary of experiences and select a word that best describes your experience. If your experience isn’t in the glossary, propose a new term!
Feature Prompting My Experience
This will most likely be a quotation from your source or a description of some element of the source that can’t exactly be quoted (one that’s come up in posts this semester is the use of headings throughout an article).
(OPTIONAL) The Technology Prompting My Experience
If you feel up to it, try to determine what technology the author used to create the feature you responded to. I’ll offer feedback on this in my feedback video.
